The Greenhouse, Singapore’s inaugural net-zero international school building at Dulwich College (Singapore) by Education in Motion (EiM) celebrated its grand opening yesterday. It was officiated by Guest of Honour, Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration and Her Excellency Kara Owen, British High Commissioner to Singapore.
The seven-storey state-of-the-art structure that accommodates close to 3,000 students from the ages of two to 18, stands as a testament to EiM’s commitment to Singapore’s Green Plan 2030. Certified as Green Mark Platinum Zero Energy, The Greenhouse generates over 100 per cent energy savings, reducing approximately 216 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
A notable feature is the eco-envelope adorned with building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) panels, covering 1,300 square metres from the north facade to the rooftop. This innovation, a first in Singapore, maximises solar energy generation, supplying 40 per cent of the building’s annual energy consumption.
Karen Yung, EiM’s Founder and Chief Collaboration Officer, expressed her dedication to supporting Singapore’s green initiatives, stating, “The Greenhouse is not just a building – it is a testament to nurturing environmentally conscious global citizens who are deeply passionate and committed to creating real impact for a better world.”
Mr Desmond Lee applauded EiM’s efforts, emphasising the importance of integrating sustainability into everyday life. He urged more organisations to follow suit, aligning with the growing environmental consciousness of investors and building users.
