The Italian Government has released a statement showing confidence in a possible Salone del Mobile 2021 event in September.
Tradition has long gone out the window, as we’re all well aware, when it comes to international affairs. But the return of Salone del Mobile.Milano is looking increasingly promising, with the international trade fair pencilled in for September 2021, as opposed to the traditional April event. The latest word from Milan is that the tentative Salone del Mobile 2021 event could soon become concrete, following a joint announcement made by Claudio Feltrin, president of FederlegnoArredo, and Salone del Mobile.Milano president, Claudio Luti.
“We will shortly have important news regarding the resumption of international trade fairs,” Luti announced on Thursday, 15 April, following a packed series of meetings with Palazzo Chigi and several key ministry bodies of the Italian Government. “The Salone del Mobile di Milano is an immeasurable asset for the entire country, and the government has confirmed that it is fully aware of this. We are therefore hopeful that the reassurances given yesterday will soon become concrete actions. Most importantly, this has to be a mindset shared by the companies who have to confirm their attendance at the trade fair, as a key driver of recovery in the furnishing sector, the Italian economy and society.”
The meetings in Rome echoed the sentiment of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s recent statement, acknowledging the need for a recovery plan for the relaunch of trade fairs and events. “This sends a very important signal from the politicians, showing that they are fully cognisant of the urgent need not just for a set date, but also for the requisite reassurances in order to organise a major event such as the Salone del Mobile di Milano within the necessary timeframes,” says Feltrin.
“The government OK for public attendance at the European Football Championships has triggered increasing confidence that the relaunch is within our sights and being able to cut the Salone ribbon in September would be the best way to show the world that Italy has returned to the new normal.”
Marking the 60th edition of the event, Salone del Mobile 2021, should it go ahead, will bring together all product categories for the first time, representing a special moment.
